Mary: Our Mother

Welcome to our October Generations session! I'm so glad you made time for some faith experiences with your family today. Remember that all things we do together as families are sacred. 

Start by checking out this intro video which will explain what's in your family kit for this month: "Mary in Art & Music" As always, I'm looking forward to #learningfaithtogether. 

Kits for this month's session can be picked up at St. Michael Parish at the GOF doors on: Tuesday, October 13th or Wednesday, October 14th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM or, in the parish office anytime after Tuesday, October 13th.

Welcome to our playlists! Each list is geared with activities, games and more for different ages of kids.

 

Feel free to have older siblings help younger siblings - we learn from teaching and doing together too. :D

 

Feel free to work through the playlist at your own pace, you do not need to complete it all at once.

Grades K-1:

Read

"Mary, Mother of Jesus"

Listen in to Sr. Christina Miriam as she reads us a story all about Mary.

 

This special book tells us all about Mary's life! 

Watch

One of the special prayers that  we have as Catholics is called the "Hail Mary." 

Use this echo song to help learn this special prayer to Mary. 

Do

Make a decade Rosary bracelet with the pipecleaner and beads found in your kit. 

Watch this video for instructions on how to put your decade bracelet together. 

Pray

This month, we are going to work on learning the special Mary prayer that you heard sung in our video, "The Hail Mary."

You can use the popsicle sticks in your kit to help you practice.

After you read the story, wonder about these together:

  • What did you learn about Mary? 

  • Who's mother is Mary? 

  • What is one thing you learned about Mary? 

First Reconciliation Preparation:

Read

This month, we will be focusing on the the 10 Commandments. These are special rules that God gave to Moses. Read the story in any Bible from

Exodus 19:16 - 20: 17, or by clicking the "read" below. 

 

God gave us these special rules to help keep us safe and happy. 

Watch

You read a story about Moses receiving the 10 Commandments.

Now, watch a video to learn a little more about what those 10 commandments mean.

Do

Find the page called "All About the 10 Commandments" in your kit. 

Take time to color the pictures and draw pictures where there are spaces.

Pray

This month, let's review the Sign of the Cross. 

As Catholics, we begin (and often end) our prayers with this special motion. It reminds us that God is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. 

Practice this prayer over the month of October. You can use the video below to help.

Grades 3-5:

Read

The Bible has some key stories about Mary. 

Pick one of the stories below to learn more about Mary. 

The Annunciation: The Angel Gabriel Visits Mary

The Visitation: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth. 

Watch

This month we are learning all about the Blessed Virgin Mary. 

What do you know about her story? Listen in with these two children as their uncle tells them the story of Mary.

Do

Make your own rosary. 

Find the needed materials in your kit and watch the video below for assembly instructions. 

Pray

Our Church has several special prayers to Mary.  We often say a few of these special prayers together to form a larger prayer called The Rosary. 

Work on memorizing two of these special prayers,

and

The Glory Be

this month.
